My First, But Not Last Snow Day by Griffin Bast
The snow sparkled like a carpet of fine glass as the sun shone upon it. It was a chilly 30
degrees outside. All of the vegetation was covered in a fine white powder that decorated them to look like spectral beings in the early morning mist. It was the first snow all year and it was beautiful. I was suddenly hit by the realization that I had no school today! The next half hour or so was occupied by everyone intensely watching the news to confirm that there was no school. There was great rejoicing, great rejoicing I say, when the title "Scituate public schools closed" rolled across the screen. My family of sisters and parents rushed to get on our snow clothes and run out into the brisk air. The rest of the morning was filled with gleeful shouts of "haha gotcha!" or" oh that was close!" as my family pelted each other with snowballs or made snow forts. After a lunch of hot chocolate and buttery popcorn we decided to go sledding at the Scituate High School. The hill there was huge and amazing speeds are a guarantee. Shouts of "Woo-hoo!" and "Wow that was fast!" rolled across the hills. After multiple consecutive face plants and one of our tubes popping, we decided to go home. When we finally got back home around 5:00 our faces were red as tomatoes. Our fantastic day ended with a movie by the fire. We went to bed with a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. My First, but not Last, Snow Day
